Found an almost acceptable solution! There's an App called "KinScreen" which allows you to turn on the screen with a movement above the screen. In combination with the default notifications (need at least swipe screen for security setting).

This is too funny. I also switched from the Moto X to the Pixel, and am already missing 2 things. #1 the size, #2 the ambient display which is MOTION ACTIVATED!!! I tried about 6 different apps trying to replicate it. Gravity Screen can help with the motion activation, but I couldn't get it to...
