i dont understand why the newer versions (50, 52) would have the "sync contacts" checkbox option in app settings > accounts > facebook and yet still not do any syncing of contacts (when you click it, it's immediately said to be done but doesnt actually do anything). how do you sync fb contacts...

^ this method is what is described earlier in this thread by other users. i.e. uninstall newest fb, install old version (40 or 41 or whatever) then magically syncing should work again. this method does not work on my S5.

is there a way to export facebook contacts to a file, save to SD card, and then import that file onto the phone contacts in contacts > settings > import ?

Samsung S5; have uninstalled messenger and facebook, have installed v47, v41, v42 via apk website with no change. have installed the newest version (17th Oct 2015), have the "sync contacts" option returned and visible in fb app settings, have synced, re-synced, re-re-synced, have power cycled...
