If you're sort of wanting the Gear S as a standalone phone replacement then you probably won't be disappointed. Since you have the Note 2, and it's compatible with the Gear S, you'll be able to download apps, watch faces, wallpapers etc to your Gear S. I assume you'll just use the phone number...

You can now use Endomondo stand-alone on the Sony Smartwatch 3 which has built in GPS. So maybe it's coming soon for the Gear S too? Obviously, they recognize the desire people have to run without their phones since they implemented it for the Sony watch.

So you're saying the phone needs to be connected when you first start the nike app for it to work correctly? also can you run nike+ and the samsung running app at the same time in order to get heart rate info during the run?

I want to buy the Gear S outright and not have it connected to a data plan. I basically want to use it as you would other smart watches. Currently I have the Gear Fit and want to use the Gear S in its place, just connected to my Verizon Note 3. Without activating the Gear S on a data plan...
