WSJ: Verizon CEO calls T-Mobile's plan to end phone subsidies 'a great idea'.

It is a great idea. I would love to see subsidies die a cold death as long as my monthly rate went down substantially since there would be less cost out of their pocket. Edit: also, all phones should be unlocked and there should be no requirement of branded hardware

I've noticed it takes longer to get a GPS lock also.

    Signal Strength Difference after JB

I've also noticed seemless switching WiFi to LTE. I'm in a very good LTE area so I only have 3g if I lock the phone there. After JB my network performance improved noticeably. I have very poor signal where I work (underground data center) and the update fixed most of my issues. I had problems...

Google said GN will get Jelly Bean, do they mean the VZW GN?

This: Also, there's a really great section on XDA for the vzw gnex that's filled with tutorials to get you started. Using the tutorials and google I was able to get the ICS source up and running in my linux VM and compile my own ROM. If you're at all technical (i'm thinking you are as you're...

Verizon Nexus Signal - Still a Problem? -- Need advice

my first gnex was also a lemon, had the same issue. swapped it out at the VZW store and never looked back. The one I have now has been fantastic. I almost switched to the MAXX but after using a good gnex I was really glad I decided to give it another shot.

if you're on verizon (I'm assuming you are as you're posting in the VZW gnex forum) your updates (like mine) are controlled by the carrier. This is why VZW devices got 4.0.4 two months late. edit: you can always unlock and flash to 4.1 though, I'm going to be doing that this weekend.

I think JB will be what it takes for me to flash from stock. I've been rooted for a while now but I really want JB.

    Just brought the 7.7 Verizon

My wife uses her 7.7 for her business and loves it. Battery life under heavy usage is almost 2 full days as well. Pretty awesome for such a small and thin device.

Is there someone I can pay to root and jb my nexus?

+1 on both comments above. Using various guides and google I have been able to compile ICS from source and build my own ROM for my gnex. It wasn't that difficult, just take your time and double check your work.

    Nexus on AT&T?

a LTE gnex can be had for under $80 subsidized. IMHO popping the $350 for the unlocked HSPA+ version is the way to go. You get faster updates and you can be your own cell service by using prepaid sims and switching services as you see fit. Port your existing number to google voice and go to...

I ordered my first Android (the Nexus)

you won't regret it. I  my gnex. One of the nicest phones I've used, and I love that I didn't have to go through some ridiculous process to unlock the bootloader. yay for developer devices!
