This happens because CDMA carries (Verizon and Sprint) don't allow text messages longer than 160 characters, for whatever reason. The Eris is actually good about letting you send and recieve in multiple messages. Most phones on Verizon will not even send or let you receive messages longer than 160.
You can use Shop Savvy, which is also helpful when you're in the store to scan barcodes for prices and reviews. Another good one is Barcode Scanner. They are both popular apps and shouldn't be difficult to find in the Android Market.

Try downloading the app "spare parts." When you open it and go to battery history, check the partial wake usage. Android System should be on top. If something else is above it, that's what is keeping your awake time up and killing your battery.
Exactly, if you long press it in the ATK app, a screen will pop up and hit ignore. It will not show up in ATK anymore and won't be killed when you kill everything else.
I have been having this problem since I got the phone and just fixed it yesterday. Do you kill it with advance task killer? If so, ignore it (don't kill) and it will work.
When I first got my Eris, I had the same problem with the weather widget. After a week of use, it began showing the correct location. On LI, the towns are on top of each other and it works great. It may just need a few days to calibrate.
