Try Exploring the file system with an app like ES File Explorer. Look for APKs, TMP files and all kinds of unused files

What apps are you using to access the drive ?

I'm not sure it gives notifications. I never received for my Nexus devices. Try using ES File Explorer to access the USB. After trying a few apps this is the one that worked for me. You can see a screen cap at: Code Between The Lines: Nexus USB OTG (On The Go)
