    Just got an A54 5G

My A34 updated to One UI 6.0/ android 14 last Tuesday. Still works the same...

    Do not disturb activation sound

Got the same problem with an a34. It is more of an aggravation than anything, but it does seem counter-productive to have the phone loudly announce it's going silent? Still haven't figured out how to stop it, if that is even possible.

    Linux. Did I win?

I feel like I've outgrown Android Central

Hmmm, 2013...guess I haven't been here for awhile. Actually, I didn't realize I had an account, until I tried to register.

    Just got an A54 5G

I don't have the a54, but I do have the a34. Seems to work ok, but then I've had it for less than a week... Oh, and I've never had a Samsung (well except an SSD) but my wife likes her Samsung Tablet.

What Search Engine Do You Use on Your Phone?

Infoseek and Alta-Vista. Just kidding. I use Google, as my search interests are rather benign. Bing - bah - Microsoft, 'nuff said.

Battery life seems much poorer under 5.0.1

I have noticed the battery draining as well. One post I read, said that it took several charging cycles to get it sorted out and then much better battery life. I'll see what happens after a week.

Who still has their Nexus 4?

I bought my N4 last November, so just a year old. I have it rooted and running xposed, gravity-box and a half dozen modules, plus some paid for "root" apps. It's running real nice, battery is as good as it will ever be, and if need be, I will just replace the battery from Amazon or some such...

    google inbox invite community?

I'll pass, thanks anyway. edit: emailed Google for an invite in November and a few days later got one. Tried inbox for a week, went back to Gmail and will probably stay with it.

    How to avoid planned obsolescence?

You then have a full year (warranty period) to figure out if you want to go the "rooting" route and if not, you still have a nice fully functional phone that will probably do everything you need it to do and for quite some time at that.

Chromecast is an annoying piece of crap.

but-but-but, it works great on my LG42LK450. Took a bit of persuasion for my cheap $20 dlink router to accept it, but it now runs flawlessly. I even have it casting from my ubuntu 14.04 laptop as well as several computers running different flavours of windows, along with tablets, phones etc...

Use Hola + Cast Screen to view region specific content (ex. watch Netflix UK from the US)

and it works for me, in the People's Republic of Canakistan. Great for watching US shows.

    How to avoid planned obsolescence?

I kind of was in the same line of thinking as you a year ago. Last November, I picked up my first smart phone (Nexus 4), just after the arrival of the Nexus 5, and have subsequently researched the blazes out of it. I planned on it lasting for quite a few years, as I could not honestly see...

    4.4.3 Update

According to the Feedly blog, they are under a DOS attack that put them off line. I noticed that with the update to 4.4.3, Feedly started to freeze up as well, so did a little "sleuthing" and found out about the DOS attack. However, it does seem strange that it happened right at the same time as...

    4.4.3 Update

Haven't gotten it yet either, up here in the GWN, for my N7 2013. I did, however, get it for my N4 yesterday and with the exception of a few cosmetic changes, nothing untoward has happened....yet. I'm in no hurry. edit: It came down around 5:30 pm this afternoon. I have noticed that Feedly on...
