As others have said having your friends delete old group chat and start new ones would most likely solve the issue. So theoretically if you changed your number everyone would have to start new chats with the new number anyway so you should be good after that.

I'm still skeptical about the lag and memory management issue. I remember testing the S6 in store and it didnt lag and keep apps in memory fine but once I got it and used it for a few weeks it was a different story.
