I contacted WhatsApp support regarding this and they asked me to reset all the permissions used by the WhatsApp App. Just Go to Settings -> Apps -> WhatsApp -> Permissions -> Then turn off all the permissions and turn it back on again This fixed the issue on my phone. Hope it works for you too.
