Update: took the phone to the sprint store with a tech repair shop and they said the phone was completely dead but not sure why. Although they did rule out water damage. They think maybe it over heated and something internal was fried but te batteries looked okay. So.... I will have to go...

Will continue to work on this. Meanwhile I am noticing that my external battery charger is not able to fully charge the battery although I could just not be waiting long enough. Does anyone know how the Samsung factory warranty will treat me here? Have had te phone for 6 months

Been fussing around all day so far with no good news to report. I have noticed that when I put a battery back into the phone, despite it not turning on the phone will still get very warm and then cool again when I take the battery back out. I am assuming this is a hardware issue?

Yes soft reset I took battery out and held the power button for about a minute. I have not been able to get the phone to boot up on safe mode or recovery mode. I have an extra battery which I know is fully charged and this isn't working either. :(
