I went to XDA and someone said that exFAT wasn't supported by custom ROMs such as CM, AOSP, etc. So I formatted my card on my computer to Fat32 using this program (Windows 8 didn't give me the option to format in Fat32 for some reason). I plugged it into my phone and didn't have any problems...
