Assuming the account settings are correct for ‘delete from server’, I found that ONLY by SWIPING the email(s) into Deleted Status followed by a ‘Refresh’(synch) would emails actually be deleted from my server.

The ‘Delete from Server’ is found at the bottom of ‘Incoming Settings’. And, Kelly Burby mentioned a key: mark an email as Deleted IN the INBOX then do a ‘Refresh’. (Checkbox deletes doesn’t appear to synch to the server.)

My observations are like yours. The S5 inbox is a partial ‘image’ of your current server. To keep an email on your phone you must save it ; typically it will go to: ‘My Files>Device Storage>Saved Emails’
