I'm not able to update via Kies either. So I guess updating via Odin and then resetting the counter is my only possible path left? I just want a device that can be updated via OTA updates, nothing else. I don't want to root or install any custom ROM or Kernel.

Here's the deal. I bought this Note 2 off a friend's friend so I can't *really* be sure what went on with this. It's under warranty still though. I'm not able to update it via the in build software updater because it says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available"...
