I'm looking into rooting my phone for the first time, but one thing I have not seen in this guide (or any other others for that matter) is instructions on backing up the phone beforehand. Is this because backing up the phone (whether through CWMod or otherwise) requires root access?

I was hoping to get the improved cut and paste from Gingerbread in this update but I don't see it. Does HTC Sense have a cut and paste method that overrides the default Gingerbread cut and paste?

Thanks for the suggestions. I had forgotten that the display's power usage always dwarfs the CPU and I had never heard of those external battery packs.
