I've experience the same on 2 new tablets an ASUS memo 176cx and a Lenevo Tab 2 10A 70 the problems started after firmware updates. my work-around was to login to my router/gateway and change the Mode setting from B G N to B and G only. Doing a speed test on OOKLA when on B G N resulted in 2mbs...
