I had the same issue, Galaxy S3 sprint updated to 4.4 and GPS couldn't get a lock. Made me get lost a few times. While I was unsure of how to remove google maps as it wasn't an option for me, just diasable and force stop, I did update google maps via google play and now it seems to lock on...
