Thanks, registered now. Yes, even YouTube music app uninstalled itself. It had been installed for a few months working fine, but not previously with any local files as I've only just put some on the phone. The files are all .wma or .MP3 ripped from CDs. Baffled!

Samsung A70 with Android 11. Installed Simple Music Player from Play Store and set it up to see the local library (phone memory, no SD installed). It worked for a while and then crashed whilst playing and the app completely disappeared from the phone. Installed again and the same thing...
