I uninstalled the update and then reinstalled it and it seems to be fine now, no battery drain issues anymore

Same thing is happening to me too. I did have picture backups through Google+ on after the update, but thought that might be eating the battery, so turned that option off but it's still eating my battery up fast. I don't even really use Google+ at all and is one of the highest listed processes...

The black color Defender on Amazon is $34.32 right now, some of the other colors are more expensive.
