Try turning off Settings -> Sound -> Flip for Speaker. Perhaps the sensors are mis-calibrated and think you are flipping the phone over to put it into speakerphone. Sent from my HTC One X using Android Central Forums

Another setting that might help is changing the Background Process Limit in the Developer Options settings screen. By default it is set to "Standard Limit" but the UI allows you to choose between 0 and 4. I am not sure exactly how changing this value impacts the multitasking, but perhaps someone...
