Had same thing, all of a sudden finger wouldn't work on Note 8, but S-pen would. After rebooting and trying some suggestions I noticed that I had a notification of Google Assistant was up and with the pen I swiped to get rid of it, but settings icon came up so I hit that and turned it off...
