From what I have gathered it appears to be a kernel panic that is causing the restart. Folks have gotten around it by flashing an alternate kernel.

I don't have 5.0.1 on my phone (yet). And I seems to not have had any reboot since yesterdays (so far, fingers crossed).

Mine rebooted again when I tried bringing my phone out of airplane mode this morning. Based on the runtime of some of the processes it appears it also restarted itself at like 10pm last night.

A Kernel Panic in Linux based OS's (Like MacOS and Android) is the equivalent to the Blue Screen of Death in Windows. Usually MacOS and Windows will auto reboot after one occurs, not sure if Android does (not finding anything that says it will). Usually invalid calls to memory, or unhandled...
