Its not at all uncommon for carriers to take little bit of a loss on hardware, especially on pre-paid. Prepaid is one of the biggest money makers ever.

Not at all. Only flashing non-signed images will up the flash counter. Verizon, for example, has a tool called the "Verizon Phone Support Tool". Basically, you attach it to your device and it will restore or repair your phone. It uses a modified version of Kies to flash a signed/stock image.

I had the same issue on my wife and I's S4. I ended up calling VZW because our SD Cards kept dismounting and havng them send me two 32 GB S4's. Now we just keep our images on internal storage.

You don't have to unlock the boot loader to flash a signed (original) file. You only need to be unlocked to flash non stock images.

Re: KitKat Uodate... Yes or No? Im running the Moto X with Kit Kat 4.4. I have zero issues. I dont recall a battery life change. Also, all of the app updates are via the Play Store, so it doesnt really matter if you're on 4.4 or not. I love it.

This basically means that your operating system has been corrupted. Your phone is essentially stuck in bootloader mode. You will probably have to use ODIN to go back to stock.

This is somewhat of an unofficial known issue. Meaning, it happens all the time but Samsung wont take credit for it formally. So, if you had pictures don't worry, you probably didn't lose them.
