I had KitKat on my phone when I received it, I have upgraded to Lollipop and them to Marshmallow. I have never done a FDR, I have had to problem with it. I figured I would do a FDR if I had problems, I never had any problem so I never did a FDR. My two cents worth.

Can you add a new contact and then force a sync of the account. Not sure on a Samsung but on my Nexus 6P you would go to Settings > Accounts > Google > then the three vertical dots > Sync Now. If that does not do it for you then maybe someone with a Galaxy S7 will chime in here.
