My samsung galaxy s3 does the same thing I have windows 8.1 and all I do is go to the files and the phone is still there and I can see all the files. Hope this helps.

Re: Movies from SD card Go to the file the movies are saved in and click on them I believe that will start the movie.

I would check the battery to see if it got wet or is ruined.
