[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

You're asking me, 2 left thumbs, to test something? lol One phone isn't activated, so that wouldn't work. My phone IS working, but I'd be scared of bricking it. :-! Besides, how much more simpler could these instructions get - other than download xx.zip and watch it work. hehe

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

HA! Awesome!! Yeah, those little side notes would've helped me from making very simple mistakes. For some people, those little things would just come to their mind naturally; for noobies and those who might be intimidated or scared to do this, these instructions might make them feel a bit more...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

Well, I will tell you the simple, stupid mistakes I made that made this process take longer than it should. This might help some of the noobies doing this: 1. Make sure you turn off usb storage AFTER unzipping/moving files to sdcard and BEFORE you begin the terminal process. (duh...ha!) 2...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

It's completed and I'm back to setting up the phone (emails, contacts, etc). So, it's unrooted AND still works. lol Can't say thank you enough!

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

HA!! I told you it was gonna be a stupid user error!! I went back and physically copied both .zip files onto the sdcard (uh, yeah, kinda like the instructions clearly state in step 1). Before, I just unzipped the files onto the card, and didn't place the actual .zip file on it. LOLOL! Stoopid...

The md5sum confused the crap outta me.... Error messages:... Finding update... Open update... Verifying update... E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory) E:signature verification failed Installation aborted.

Yes, I can read the sdcard on a pc and will attempt the md5sum on update.zip. Yes, the recovery screen looks like the picture in the post. And, I'm sure it's something easy (probably stupid on my part) that's preventing me from finishing. :p

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

Yes, I used the adb shell (3rd option) and it booted to the recovery page on the phone just fine. I did everything just as I did with the first phone. Gonna try steps 1 and 2 again.... Edit: Tried again and still getting error messages. Edit again: Unzipped both files, again, to sdcard...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

Ok, it was too good to be true to be able to unroot my phone as easy as my husband's. At step 3, applying sdcard update.zip, I'm getting error messages failed to open update zip no such file or directory and signature verification failed. I went back and made sure I unzipped both...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

That was the problem he was having, the fact that the phone isn't active. Now, with my phone, I won't want to do the 786 reset b/c I'm still using it and don't want to delete my personal info. I guess that's why he suggested taking it to the store so they can manually do it from there, plugging...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

Yes I did. I was speaking more on the lines of apps, such as superuser, titanium backup, and I believe super tool is another rooted app. But, I guess it makes sense it's ok to delete them if I won't be re-rooting it again once it's been unrooted.

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

On another note, I'm about to unroot the phone I'm currently using, mainly b/c I need to free up memory/space on the phone itself. Once I've unrooted it, is it ok to delete the apps used for rooting (i.e.superuser)? And, should I delete the files from the sdcard used in the rooting/unrooting...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

They ended up creating a work order for me to take it to a store and let them do whatever to it that I can't just by entering a code. I told him I already had the 786 and just needed the service code, but he couldn't come up with a code that worked. He even had me do the hard reboot (holding...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

Definitely! Now, if I can only get someone on the phone who knows what they're doing. I asked for the service code, they gave me a few that didn't work (including 0000 or the last 4 of the cell # it was used for). I was told to try the factory data reset found under the privacy settings, which...

[How-To] Simplified UNROOT and return to STOCK

You are heaven sent!! :o) I'm in contact w/sprint now to get the service code. Yes, this was a very simple process and I will be doing it again to my other phone in just a few minutes. Thank you again for your instructions and responses. I guess it's ok to delete the files off the sdcard that...
