One stupid tip for anyone dealing with this issue: your phone needs to be unlocked for HTC sync manager to make a connection. This is not unlocked as in carrier unlocking. Just unlocked as in entering your pass code.

OK, I wiped the contacts, removed MyPhoneExplorer and restored my Google contacts. I then synced the outlook contacts with HTC sync. Everything is fine so far now. My guess is that I had something set wrong in MyPhoneExplorer.

Sorry, I missed that question. I use MyPhoneExplorer for syncing. HTC also has a USB syncing system, but it won't sync Outlook tasks. And MyPhoneExplorer works better. With the HTC sync, I had a hard time getting it to link up with my phone. I've never had that problem with MyPhoneExplorer.

I've had good luck with Juice Defender (there are free and paid versions). However, you will never get Blackberry-like battery life from a Vivid.

The problem I had was that HTC mail client would misrender about a third of my messages. I just recently started using the K-9 email app. It has all of the advantages you cite and, so far, has rendered everything perfectly.
