My mother has a D2G and every time I check for an update it says it is up to date. No GB :(. Its running stock here in northern New England. Edit: As of yesterday (10/19/2011) the update is installed and appears to be working properly.

I have experienced the same issue on mine. It's happened 3 or 4 times. Droid 2, stock Froyo.

I had a similar problem with my Droid 2 (stock, 2.2) and I found that the issues were significantly reduced when I went through and removed all the apps I didn't use/didn't need.

I use YouMail and I like how it operates. I would certainly like the convenience of the voice-to-text feature in the premium version.

I have not experienced this issue at all, however I haven't actively tried to recreate it either. I use Handcent on my Droid 2 running Froyo NOT rooted.

I'm not being prompted either, nor does the phone find the update when I search. It just says it's up to date at v2.2.2

My brother had a Captivate for about a week. I think he wanted to do something like that to it intentionally.

I'll tell you where I'd put it! I'd use it on my desk at work and at home, however, honestly, I work in a fab. shop so if I wanted, I could make one or two or five for myself.
