I went from an S4 to the Note 4 and I have absolutely no regrets. I think the Note 4 is much better than the S4. I highly recommend the upgrade!!

I previously had a Galaxy Nexus so the amount of crapware on the S4 is so incredibly annoying. I look at the list of all the applications on the phone and it is pathetic. I want to remove as much of it as possible. I have ME7 so apparently installing a custom ROM is not possible at this point...

I finally figured it out. I installed SMS Backup and Restore on both phones and did a backup of my messages on both phones. I then merged the XML files and restored the merged file on the new phone. Thanks again for the help it got me thinking in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply I had not heard of Smart Switch. I tried it and it cannot transfer directly from the Nexus. So I tried to use Kies to do a backup of the Nexus hoping I can use the backup to upload to the S4 but Kies also does not work with the Nexus.
