Storage/emulated would be your phone's internal sdcard. If you have a file manager you can browes through /emulated and see a list of folders that's stored on your phone. Not sure about your phone, but on the Galaxy S4 after /emulated there are two more folders (/0, and /legacy)...

Try downloading "Android Tuner". Its an amazing app for rooted and non rooted devices. You can set up and manage a profile to active on boot complete. Also has tons of different options to fine tune your phone that I find works great for the S4. Posted via Android Central App

I had the exact same symptoms and tried a lot of those remedies which fixed the problem for a little while, but ultimately failed after so long.

I know this reply is way late and everyone probably moved on, but the issue IS a faulty USB port in the phone. If you can't have it fixed under warranty you can order a new one for around $10 online and is simple to replace yourself. Videos on YouTube. I had the same problem and that solved it.
