Why not try Project Fi? Unless you are on a family plan, Fi may be cheaper if you only use around 2 GB of data. About $40 or less/mo. plus tax. If you use a lot of data it may not be the best choice.

It all worked well on my Nexus5 with T-mo. I am using Project Fi now.

I think that's how I have it set up. Tested last evening. All the gmail came in - all the comcast email came in the next day.

Never had this happen on T-mo (been with them 17 years). Doing some testing! Did not close my account just in case Fi service doesn't turn out too well. I hope it does. Phone is fine - the battery life on the 5X is soooo much better than the 5.
