I've had the same problem since the Droid Eris on 1.5. I figured that a new phone and 2.2, HTC would have fixed the problem, but no. I haven't tried the widget again since the GB update, but do not expect it to be fixed.

You can add or remove an entry from the favorites group by editing that contact in the People widget. There is a sub-section "groups". Click on that at unselect the "favorites" group.

I've had my phone for three+ weeks now and that has not happened. However, I have been concerned that it might since the micro usb plug is very hard to insert and remove. Would be interested to know if anyone has "lubricated" the plug to help minimize this problem.
