Thanks for the help everyone, the issue has been solved. Why the problem was my old phone I do not know. I do know the new one works just fine. I didn't need to do anything special, I just punched in the 6 digit number and got a response.

Spoke with a Verizon representative after posting and they couldn't come up with a solution other than sending me a new phone. If anyone would like to try to text my bank to see if they could get a response, I'd be curious to see if it works for you. The banks number is 226537. Thanks
