See thats where I get confused. I thought when you root you wipe out stock and need to install a new ROM to run it.

Thats what I'm wondering. Is rooting just here because people cant leave the phone alone and just need to hack into it or is there some real benefits to it? Are you able to get more apps for free as you are when you jailbreak an iphone?

Let me start of by saying hey. Second, I am very reluctant to root my EVO as to how I have read that you need to use a ROM that someone has made themselves to run the phone after rooting. Are these ROM's safe to run and how do you know which one to run? I just want to get some of these...
