Android isn't as bad as iOS as far as that is concerned. My old Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.4.2 runs the same apps as my 5x with Android 6.01.

I also have a Tab S2 8.0 and a 5X. It's not a big deal. I used to have a Samsung S3 and when I got my 5X I thought it would be difficult to get used to it, but it's a non-issue. At least it was for me.

Your news.google.com page you attached shows you're not signed in to google. Try signing in to google on chrome and see if that page looks different.

If reading ebooks is your primary use there is nothing better for that than a kindle.

If your Tab S2 is connected to the internet it will be able to view your kindle books on Amazon using the kindle app so you can select and read them directly from amazon. I had to add my Tab S2 as a device to my amazon account. Works fine.

I can only remember mine doing it twice since early-mid november and I use ok google often. And it hasn't done it often enough for me to notice a pattern.

I purchased 2 USB C to regular USB cables from google when I purchased my 5X, one for my vehicle and one for a computer.
