I wasn't having luck with aRoot wither until I went into 'My Computer' and right-clicked on the phone's removable storage icon and selected "Eject". Then I ran it again and it worked perfectly.

Same thing happened to me. I was trying to use my phone as an SD reader. I finally got a Dynex brand reader and it worked fine. Only other thing I can think of is to make sure that the windows is not trying to access the SD card in any other way. Don't open the explorer to view the SD card...
