Is it possible to configure a Pixel 9 to NOT display the trending searches when triggering the search widget? What's really UX-nasty is that one most click twice -- once to get the search box, and again tho trigger the keyboard.

Turns out I had to disable/turn off Swype in the settings. Once that was done, Shift keys worked. Hopefully, I'll be able to get Swype back when I need it.
