The pics in the Selfies album are merely shortcuts linked to the original pics. I'm not sure how it distinguishes which pics are selfies, but I'm thinking the resolution of the pic is good guess. As an experiment, you could try slightly resizing one of the pics and see if it allows you to keep...

Sounds like there could potentially be issues writing to the SD card. I would try reformatting it or even better, if possible for you, try a different SD card to see if you have the same issues with it.

Are you using a SD card that you are storing to? ES File Explorer shows my internal storage location as SD Card. I don't know what it would show an actual inserted card as, since I don't use one. If you do, maybe there is some confusion there.

Don't manipulate them in the Gallery app. Do so directly in the file explorer. They are located in DCIM>100MEDIA.
