The option to upgrade to Gold is in the left drawer. Either drag from left edge of the screen or tap the Expense IQ logo. The button is labelled "Upgrade to Gold" IIRC. Other than removing ads, it adds a few nifty features like Cloud Sync (Dropbox!), yearly reports and a widget too!

I started using this app recently, it seems there is no account option but there are backup/restore and cloud sync functions. It's probably because of privacy and security, which I think is good on the developer's part! Backup/restore can be accessed from "Database Tools" in the right drawer...
