My S5 would not lock itself anymore... When the display goes dark and I want to use the phone I usually had to type in my code. Now the display is only locked when turning the screen off via On/Off Button... Any ideas?

It appears as white dots in the Window where you can select the pattern looks, but as soon as you enable it and save your choice, it will be multi in the actual lockscreen again.

What does the status below the Network name say?

If you go into Settings -- Messages you should find the option "Notifications". Try to change it there.
