Yea. The help section of the app discusses that. I just had not read that part. I also discovered I could undo the changes at Google.com/contacts and get the stars back.

Sound Profile Pro Driving down the interstate last night at 11pm when I noticed a warning that switching to the silent profile would result in no starred contacts. There's a help section with details on this (and a workaround) on the website. I like the app as it's very customizable.

I have starred my favorite contacts several times in the past week or so. They show up starred on the phone (Samsung Fold) and online at Google contacts. Next day there are no starred contacts. Any ideas?
