    Aha, disabling direct call may have fixed it! Why it thought me setting down the phone or turning off the display was bringing it to my ear I don't know, but I think that was the problem, thank you so much!

    This is happening to me constantly since the update on S9, it's embarrassing. I disabled Swipe to call, no difference. I think I'm going to try another text message app and hope that fixes it?
