Haven't used a screen protector for years...last several phones were lg g4, s7, n7, n5, s8, and now the n8. Don't think I've scratched a screen yet. My phone always goes in my front right pocket by itself though.

So, figured I'd update this for future reference. The phone now functions as expected...swipe down and notification window comes down as expected. Unfortunately I don't know how/when it fixed itself although my guess would be a reboot solved the issue.

The speaker phone on mine and my wife's phone are crystal clear, no issues to report.
