it depends on what type of phone you have. Not all phones get all the apps in app store for the gear. You can change the build prop name of your phone to the s5's to trick the app store into thinking you have a s5 and allowing you to get more apps.

ever heard of a gym? a phone is useless and a hassle at the gym. Checking the time, listening to music, and possibly a stopwatch all on your wrist and out of the way is very useful.
