I tried that last night and I could start it in safe mode ie safe mode showed on the bottom left of the screen but the screen was still blank. Ive had messages before that touchwiz has stopped working but everything has still functioned ok

No nothing all I did was restart my phone. it boots up co but takes much longer to get past the second Samsung screen. It doesnt show me the security screen but goes stright to a black screen but it has the notification bar at the top. Its almost as if I've managed to switch the screen off...
