I used to, for the same reason. A bit more screen real estate. I stopped using it because it was interfering with using the fingerprint reader for application unlocks, and the nav function was kinda glitchy on its own.

I cannot answer that as I have no idea. As for iPhone vs Android on this subject, remember that the iPhone was originally built on top of an iPod! (iPod -> iPod Touch -> iPhone)

I use Media Monkey and I do not experiance any of the issues you describe.

Just remember that turning off the badge only turns off the visual. Not the background retrieval of mail. If you are still having battery drain issues, look into your msil fetch/push frequency.

Sounds like Outlook is fetching mail in that background, and poping the notification badge. Have you looked at that?
