Found it!!!! I had the screensaver turned on. Once I turned that off, it works like I expect it to. Thanks to SpookDroid!!!

Not a specific charger. In fact, I have the Samsung charger that I got when I got the S8 and then a generic charger (Turbot). It is happening on both.

No, I don't have Nova. And if it is working on other people's phones, there is probably something goofy on mine that is causing it. Either an app or setting somewhere I haven't found yet. I'll keep digging. Thanks to all that responded!
