Thanks Scott .. i do have the adb file and the sdk for htc and have been using CWM recovery.. what is the ruu file .. is there one specific for each rom or is there just one for each type of phone that is the stock operating system

my "real" phone is a Samsung Galaxy S3 ... was just using my old droid to kind of get the hang of what the rooting process is all about. still leary of creating a $200 paper weight with my Samsung !!... any sites you would recommend to walk through the process ? Thanks again for your help !

breakthrough ! because my phone has S-ON .. after i install the rom .. have to go back and drop the boot.img file in the fastboot folder on the computer, and flash the boot.img .. once i did that, i was able to load the Cyanogenmod that i had installed before with no success .. i assume most...

installed the Cyanogen mod which i had done before, but this went back and flashed the boot.img file that came with it ... rebooted and it loaded .. wifi working ..running android version 2.3.7 .. so far so good .. i guess the key is finding mods with attached boot.img when extracting on...

Flashed the boot.img but that did not fix my WiFi ... did i miss something or was that supposed to take care of it ?

just different sites from searching google ... some step by step print, some are you tube videos. i was able to boot up with the rom i listed before, but my wifi is broken from that one

thanks for the reply .. i was able to load the rom you pointed to but my wifi is also not functioning .. there is another video i watched that shows how to boot the image if your phone has S-ON and hanging on white screen .. going to give that a try with a different rom...

thanks for reply .. will try again .. but could you or anyone possibly confirm the steps to recover/flash/install rom for me ? still very new to this and seems each video or set of instructions is different .. i just have a terrible feeling i am missing a step or not doing something in correct...
