I got the 4.4.4 update quite a while ago, but only recently I've come across a particularly nasty bug. The dialer is useless if I try to make a call, I dial the number then the screen goes black, the call happens but now I've no way to end the call unless I pre-emptively set up the accessibility...

Lasts me all day usually, depending on how many photos/videos I take. I get about 3 to 4 hours of screen time, and I leave wifi and bluetooth on all the time

Disabling Gmail also removes the updates it has received through Play Store (so it's back to it's factory reset level), thats what that warning means I have the following disabled. Email (I use Gmail), Home Screen Tips widget (gingerbread holdover for some reason), and Messaging (I use Hangouts)

You're in the wrong forum, this is for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition GT I9500G, this uses a completely different flavour of Android from the phone you are asking about. You're better off asking in the main Galaxy S4 forum

It'll work, but not that great if you're looking for 1) to use it while charging and b) a quick charge. Also the cable makes a difference, my S4 struggles to charge using the old SII usb cable in the S4 adapter

ES reads, not sure how good the write is, definitely doesn't delete (I have the 4.4 update zip on my SD card it can't get rid of), probably only deletes that which it writes

Didn't get 4.4.1 (wasn't aware there was one for the S4 GPE) but got 4.4.2 yesterday evening, seems to have fixed my minor complaints so thats good. Still got to petition for the SD card writing

Also check the back of the battery cover, that should have a sticker that says GT-I9505G to signify it is indeed a Google Play Edition and not some fudged International GS4
