My wife has an iPhone 4s, and it shows 1x as a small circle instead of saying "3G". Maybe Sprint are thinking that if they just pretend that their slowest data available is 3G, we'll all forget just how crappy their network really is? I can't think of any other reason.

Three simple reasons: The HTC One is really, really, really (IMO) much prettier than the Samsung. I had a fantastic experience with my last HTC. I had a crappy experience with Samsung support WRT my daughter's phone last year. Ergo, I won't be buying any Samsung anything for a while.
