    I did some digging around to unroot my s4 active and came across a simple process of using Supersu to do a full unroot which worked. Ran the update OTS update and it still failed. Made sure all the files in the system/apps locations were back to the original state prior to removal of root...

    out of warranty and rooted

    im out of the warranty period and recently rooted the phone everything has been working great but there is a portion of the screen close to the top that has developed a dead spot over the weekend. would sprint care that the phone is rooted even though its out of warranty.
